Two army members and a border officer lost their lives when a U.S. military helicopter crashed close to the southern border

On Friday afternoon, a US military helicopter had an accident near the southern border, resulting in the unfortunate loss of two soldiers and a US Border Patrol agent. Another soldier got hurt in the incident.

The soldiers who passed away were part of the US National Guard, but their names are not disclosed yet, respecting their families’ need to be notified.

The helicopter, known as UH-72 Lakota, was on a mission related to supporting the federal Southwest border. It crashed during aviation operations close to Rio Grande City, Texas.

The military is currently looking into the reasons behind the crash.

According to Starr County Judge Eloy Vera, the helicopter was tracking migrants before it went down in an open field. Emergency services took a critically injured person to McAllen Medical Center in Texas. County officials are waiting for federal authorities to arrive in town to initiate the investigation.
