The mom of 5-year-old Harmony Montgomery, who went missing and was said to have been harmed in 2019, got permission to leave prison on Thursday. In a video from her hearing, Kayla Montgomery, Harmony’s stepmom, revealed that she had admitted to lying to the authorities about her whereabouts when the little girl was last seen. Harmony’s dad, Adam Montgomery, was found guilty of serious charges related to her disappearance.

Harmony was reported missing by her mom, Crystal Sorey, in November 2021. The authorities later determined that Harmony had been harmed in December 2019 in New Hampshire, but her body hasn’t been found yet.

During the parole hearing, it was shared that Kayla had hidden Harmony’s body and lied to the investigators between December 7, 2019, and March 4, 2020. The state’s Attorney General, John Formella, stated that Kayla had purposely tried to make her lie about Harmony’s disappearance.

At the hearing, Kayla admitted to lying and said that telling the truth would help everyone understand what happened. She was emotional and said that being honest would have helped the detectives find Harmony sooner.

The parole board approved Kayla’s release in May but ordered her to complete certain programs and have a home plan. She will also be under supervision for 90 days and has to participate in addiction recovery and mental health treatments.
