Rafael Nadal, the Spanish tennis player, won’t be playing in the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California. He shared on social media that he’s not feeling fully prepared for the competition. Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam winner and three-time Indian Wells champion, expressed sadness about withdrawing from the tournament, emphasizing his love for the place. The 37-year-old was set to face Milos Raonic in the first round but will be replaced by Sumit Nagal.

Nadal hasn’t played since January’s Brisbane International, marking his comeback after a hip injury. Despite practicing and taking a recent test, he doesn’t feel ready for such a crucial event. Nadal acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but prioritized honesty with himself and his fans. He mentioned missing the tournament and wished it success.

Having faced injuries in recent years, Nadal hinted in May 2023 that 2024 might be his final year on the tour. The tournament director, Tommy Haas, expressed disappointment but wished Nadal a speedy recovery, hoping to see him back in Indian Wells in the future.
