A guy suspected of killing eight people, mostly his family, in shootings near Chicago died by shooting himself after a face-off with the cops, says the police.

Romeo Nance, 23, was discovered on Monday by US Marshals in Natalia, Texas – over 1,000 miles from where seven victims were shot to death on Sunday in Joliet, a suburb of Chicago. Nance is also connected to a shooting in Will County, Illinois, on Sunday that left a 28-year-old dead, according to Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans.

Nance used a handgun to shoot himself when confronted by the authorities, police reported.

The investigators haven’t figured out why Nance did this, but Evans mentioned on Tuesday that Nance was related to “most, if not all” of the deceased in the homes.

The victims, aged 14 to 47, haven’t been identified publicly. Two girls (14 and 16), two women (20 and 38), and a 38-year-old man were found dead in one house. In another residence, a 47-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were discovered dead.

In a separate incident in Will County, a person with a head wound was found, and the eighth victim, 28-year-old Toyosi Bakare, died in the hospital. The weapon used was a 9-millimeter handgun, and it wasn’t a robbery as money was found near Bakare.

Nance’s red Toyota Camry was spotted at the scene, and deputies started watching his last-known address in hopes of finding the vehicle. After not finding Nance or his car, deputies knocked on a door but got no response. They went to another house across the street, where they found two dead victims with blood on the door. Five more victims were found in the first home.

“This is probably the worst crime scene I’ve ever been associated with,” said Evans at the news conference.

Nance is also thought to be involved in another shooting on Sunday, according to authorities.
