A little airplane crashed in a forested area close to the western edge of Virginia on Sunday. The plane caught fire, and unfortunately, all five people on board, including a young person, lost their lives, according to authorities.

The accident involving the twin-engine IAI Astra 1125 happened near Ingalls Field Airport in Hot Springs, Virginia, around 3 p.m., as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration to CNN.

The Virginia State Police spokesperson, Corinne Geller, mentioned in a statement obtained by CNN affiliate WSLS that there were four adults and one young person on the plane, and all of them, including the pilot, passed away at the scene.

Both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have expressed their intent to investigate the incident.

State police described the plane as a “small, private jet” and are working with the FAA and NTSB to verify the flight path and identify the occupants. The crash investigation is still ongoing, according to Geller.

Hot Springs is located near Virginia’s border with West Virginia, approximately 160 miles northwest of Richmond.

CNN has reached out for more details from state police, Ingalls Field Airport, and the coroner with the Western District of Virginia’s Department of Health.
