In Oregon, there was a shooting at a downtown Portland hospital on Saturday. The police shared that the person who did it is no longer alive. The incident resulted in one person passing away and another getting hurt.

After the shooting, the suspect ran away from Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center. Police later caught up with the suspect in a vehicle in Gresham, east of Portland. The officers fired their guns, and the suspect didn’t survive, as mentioned in a news release by the Portland police.

Around 11 a.m. local time, the police got a call about someone with a gun at the hospital. Sgt. Kevin Allen explained in a news conference that when the officers got there, they found out that the person had already shot inside the hospital and left before the police arrived.

Bobby Smallwood, a security guard at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, got shot and killed. Another hospital staff member got hurt but is okay. No patients were harmed.

The police evacuated and checked a Fred Meyer grocery store nearby to find the suspect. They found and stopped the suspect’s vehicle. Shots were fired by the police, and the suspect died. The police officers are fine.

Portland police say three officers used deadly force. They’ll reveal their names in 15 days unless there’s a security issue.

The hospital, which was locked down, opened up around 4:15 p.m. local time.

On Saturday afternoon, the police didn’t reveal the suspect’s name or provide any reasons for the incident.

Kathryn Correia, the president and CEO of Legacy Health, expressed deep sorrow. She offered support to Bobby’s loved ones, patients, Legacy Good Samaritan staff, and all employees and providers affected.

The Portland Police Homicide Unit, along with other detectives and the Forensic Evidence Division, are looking into the matter.
