A man from Indiana got a 57-year prison sentence on Monday for killing his 17-year-old neighbor. The girl was missing for over five months before she was found buried in the man’s backyard last year, according to official papers.

The man, Patrick Scott, who is 59 years old, also has to pay $10,000 to the victim’s family as part of a deal he made with the court.

Scott confessed to strangling Valerie Tindall with a belt during an argument in his house in June, as stated in a criminal report. Tindall used to work for Scott, who had a lawn mowing business.

In January, Scott agreed to a deal that dropped some charges, including obstructing justice and lying to the police. On Monday, a judge accepted the deal and the sentence.

Scott said he made a box the day after the murder and put Tindall’s body inside it, wrapping it in black plastic and tape.

Detectives identified Tindall with the help of orange fingernail polish, the same color she wore in a social media post on June 7.

Scott’s lawyer, Bryan Barrett, declined to comment when CNN contacted him.

CNN also tried to get information from the Rush County Sheriff’s Office and the Rush County Coroner about Tindall’s cause of death.
