A shooting happened at a club in West Point, Mississippi, on Sunday. One woman died, and around 12 others got hurt, according to Mississippi law enforcement officials.

The shooting took place early Sunday inside Club Oasis, as shared by Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott with CNN.

When the police got there, they found a 20-year-old woman dead. The injuries of the other people shot vary from minor to serious, with one person getting shot in the face.

Sheriff Scott said, “A party was advertised, and many people from different counties came. About 90% of the partygoers were not from our county.”

A security guard mentioned chasing the suspected shooter, who seemed to have a rifle. They ran across the parking lot and a four-lane highway before disappearing in the woods, the sheriff told CNN.

“Several hundred” people were estimated to be inside the club when the shooting happened.

Officials are checking to confirm the numbers and see if there’s any video from inside the club during the shooting.

“As per our rules, the club should have security cameras, but last night, the owner said his weren’t working for some reason,” Scott mentioned.

No one has been arrested, and the investigation is still ongoing, according to Scott.

“Last night was chaotic, trying to get accurate information. It was very tough with the number of victims and the chaos,” Scott explained.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 66 mass shootings in the country this year. A mass shooting, as defined by the Gun Violence Archive and CNN, is when at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter.
