A court in Barcelona has sentenced Dani Alves, a former soccer player, to four-and-a-half years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub. The court stated that there was evidence proving the assault was not consensual. Alves, who was arrested in January 2023, claimed during the trial that the relations were consensual. The judges mentioned in a 61-page sentence that the plaintiff was forcefully grabbed, thrown to the floor, and prevented from moving during the assault, despite her objections. Alves is also ordered to pay $162,700 (150,000 euros) in damages to the woman. His lawyer, Inés Guardiola, said he will appeal the ruling.
