A kid and at least one other person got hurt in a shooting outside a high school in Missouri on Saturday, as per North Kansas City Police. This incident happened less than a month after a mass shooting during a Super Bowl celebration in the same area.

The police shared that two victims were taken to the hospital from the scene. North Kansas City Police Sgt. Christopher Kimmel mentioned both were initially critical, but later, the kid’s condition got upgraded to serious but stable. The second victim, whose age wasn’t given, is receiving medical care in a local hospital.

There’s no info on suspects in custody, and it’s unclear how many people did the shooting, according to Kimmel. Police are checking video footage and talking to witnesses.

Gunshots were heard when the game at North Kansas City High School ended, Kimmel explained. Two deputies from Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, who were working during the game, were the first to respond. They found one person injured outside, and it’s an active investigation to figure out where the second victim was found.

North Kansas City Schools mentioned that the shooting happened outside the building at the end of the game between North Kansas City High School and Staley High School. Guests inside were asked to stay indoors while law enforcement dealt with the situation.

Witnesses saw someone running from the scene, near the entrance to the football field, as reported in the city’s release.

The district stated they don’t have many details to share but confirmed that everyone involved has been contacted directly. They’re looking forward to a complete police investigation.

This shooting adds more concern to the Kansas City area, still dealing with the aftermath of a shooting last month during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration rally, which resulted in one death and 22 injuries. Kimmel expressed the disappointment, saying they want kids to enjoy a basketball game, but now lives have been negatively impacted.
