Alabama Senator Katie Britt, the youngest Republican woman in the US Senate, criticized President Joe Biden and his administration on issues like the border, the economy, and crime during her response to Biden’s State of the Union address.

She expressed concern for families, stating, “Right now, the American dream has turned into a nightmare for so many families. Our families are hurting, and our country can do better.”

GOP leaders consider Britt, at 42, a leading voice among the new generation of Republicans. They emphasize her age difference with Biden, who is 81, suggesting that Biden should not serve a second term due to his age, although he is only a few years older than Trump.

Britt focused on immigration and the border in her speech, calling Biden’s border policies “senseless” and “a disgrace.” She mentioned Laken Riley, who was killed by a man who illegally crossed the border, highlighting Biden’s refusal to take responsibility.

Regarding the economy, Britt portrayed Biden as out of touch with the average American’s concerns about affordability and the cost of living. She commented, “President Biden just doesn’t get it – he’s out of touch. Under his administration, families are worse off, our communities are less safe, and our country is less secure.”

Britt, elected in 2022, is the first woman elected to the Senate from Alabama. With Trump’s endorsement, she succeeded retiring Republican Sen. Richard Shelby.

In response, the White House criticized Britt for not supporting a major bipartisan border deal and foreign aid package and over the issue of IVF access. They accused her of siding against key national security interests and criticized her support for the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

The White House argued that the president’s remarks showed a vision for the future where core freedoms are restored, the middle class is at the center of the economy, and the nation is more secure.
