A judge at London’s High Court declared that an Australian computer scientist, who has been asserting he created bitcoin, is not the same person as “Satoshi Nakamoto,” the secretive individual behind the cryptocurrency. Craig Wright, who has claimed to be the author of a significant 2008 document on bitcoin, was taken to court by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), seeking confirmation that Wright is not Satoshi. The judge, James Mellor, concluded after reviewing the evidence presented that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto and did not operate under that pseudonym during the relevant period. COPA celebrated the ruling as a victory for developers and the truth, asserting that Wright and his supporters had misled the public for over eight years about his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto. Wright’s spokesperson declined to comment following the ruling. Additionally, COPA accused Wright of fabricating evidence to support his claims, including during the trial, which he denied. The alliance requested the court to consider prosecuting Wright for perjury and obstructing justice, but the judge did not reveal whether he would pursue such actions.
